Australian Privacy Act & COPPA

Our Commitment: GoalQuest is fully committed to complying with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We take children's privacy seriously and have implemented comprehensive safeguards to protect young users of our app.

Applicable Privacy Laws

Australian Privacy Act 1988: As an Australian business, GoalQuest complies with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), which govern how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and stored. The APPs apply to all users regardless of age and provide strong protections for personal information.

COPPA: The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act is a United States federal law designed to protect the privacy of children under 13 years of age. It requires websites and online services that collect information from children to obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from children. GoalQuest voluntarily complies with COPPA as best practice for all users worldwide.

How GoalQuest Protects Children's Privacy

Verifiable Parental Consent

We require verifiable parental consent before collecting any information from children under 13. Parents must create an account and explicitly consent to data collection for each child profile they create.

Minimal Data Collection

We only collect information that is reasonably necessary to provide the GoalQuest service. For children, this is limited to display names, avatar selections, and goal progress data.

No Behavioral Advertising

We do not display behavioral or targeted advertising to children. Any advertisements shown are contextual only and not based on personal information or browsing behavior.

No Data Sales

We never sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Children's data is only used to provide the GoalQuest service.

No Social Features for Children

Children cannot publicly share information, communicate with strangers, or access external links without parental approval. The app is designed as a closed family environment.

No Child Tracking in Analytics

When a child uses the app, all personal analytics are disabled. Children are NEVER identified or tracked individually. We only collect anonymous, aggregate metrics for app improvement.

Parental Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act and COPPA, as a parent or legal guardian you have specific rights regarding your child's personal information:

  • Right to Review: You can review all personal information we have collected from your child at any time through the Privacy & Data settings in the app.
  • Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your child's personal information at any time. This will result in the removal of their profile and all associated data.
  • Right to Refuse Further Collection: You can withdraw consent for future collection of your child's information. This will require deletion of the child's profile.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can export all data associated with your child in a portable format.

How to Exercise Your Rights

You can exercise your parental rights through several methods:

  1. In-App: Use the Privacy & Data section in Settings to review, modify, or delete your child's information.
  2. Email: Contact us at privacy@goalquest.mobi with your request.

We will respond to all parental requests within 48 hours and complete deletion requests within 30 days.

Data Security for Children

We implement robust security measures to protect children's information:

  • All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Child PINs are stored using secure hashing algorithms
  • Access to children's data is strictly limited to essential personnel
  • Regular security audits are conducted to identify vulnerabilities
  • Data is stored on secure, COPPA-compliant infrastructure

Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or mishandled your child's personal information, please contact us first at privacy@goalquest.mobi. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au or by calling 1300 363 992.
